Do you remember…
long lost hours crafting and creating? The connections we made with others over time, the hints and tips that helped us get that little bit better. And that feeling of joy and pride as you hold up your final piece when you’re finished?
The time stands still and great conversations about nothing are everything here at Silkwood, especially when there’s coffee & cake or a cream tea to be shared!
Connect
Perhaps you don’t know where to start. Big groups can be intimidating, but at the Silkwood Centre, our groups are small, with no more than ten people when held at the workshop. Starting something new is the key.
We have a very strict, no-judgment policy because we all started somewhere and had to go on that same journey to develop our skills. We hope this gives you some confidence to come along, meet like-minded people and just have a go.
And you can always ring in advance then you will at least know someone there, get a feel for the place. We encourage you to come alone as much as in groups so that you don’t have to wait for someone else to be available and ready too, this can be all down to you, your choice.
Discover
And if your confidence is on the floor, whether at work, Uni or in a social situation, our discovery course are designed to help you find you again. How are you feeling at the moment? Getting out there brings up all kinds of challenges. Sometimes you simply can’t bear the thought of being judged. People seem to have clicks already. The old ‘am I enough’ rubbish wanders through your mind all too often.
And you know that promotion you want? Learn how to make it yours. Discovering who you are should not be exclusive to those with thousands to spend or who stumbled upon it as part of their CPD so we’ve made it available and affordable in bite-size chunks.
Eat
Most of our courses run from three hours to a whole day session as one-offs, some run one day a week for between 4 and 10 weeks. The aim is to bring people together again. Get them offline, meeting in person, sharing stories over lunch or a mid-session snack. The Silkwood Kitchen does great food, mostly for home delivery or as hampers for holiday lets, but our workshop courses get special treatment. Whether it’s freshly baked bread with homemade soup, or their unusual savoury take on the cream tea with cheese scones, cheddar and chutney. It might be chunky chocolate shortbread or flapjacks but there will always be something to nibble on which ever workshop you’re on. We have food-tasting nights too and a supper club another brilliant way to make new friends, everyone is always welcome.
